Run to Tatihou

Run With the Tide: The Unique Race of Tatihou

Every summer, hundreds of runners gather in Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue to take part in the legendary Course du Run. This 8 km race is unlike any other. Why? Because participants must literally run with the tide. At low tide, the route crosses oyster farms, beaches, and the historic island of Tatihou, with its Vauban Tower listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

A Natural Challenge Between Sea and Land

The 20th edition of this trail run welcomes athletes born in 2008 or earlier. With a limit of 1500 participants, competition is tough for a place on the start line. The adventure begins on the beach of Saint-Vaast, just a kilometer away from bib collection. From there, runners face a spectacular crossing. Over 100 to 150 meters, they must fight through 30 to 60 cm of seawater, depending on the tide. This natural barrier, known locally as the run, slows down even the strongest legs. An Event Full of Energy and Tradition

After the water crossing, athletes circle the 25-hectare island of Tatihou, pass the historic lazaret, and finally return to finish on the marina pier. Along the way, crowds of spectators cheer them on, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. While the event is often linked with the Tatihou World Music Festival, this year the race stands alone, celebrating both endurance and local heritage. For runners, it is not just a competition—it is a chance to test limits, embrace nature, and enjoy the thrill of the sea
